Correct or Enhance the Results of Your Original Facelift

A revision facelift is a complex surgical procedure that corrects or improves the results of a previous facelift. This surgery addresses issues such as remaining sagging skin, irregular contours, asymmetry, or visible scarring from the initial procedure. The revision requires careful dissection of existing scar tissue and precise adjustments to underlying facial structures, such as muscle and fat, to create a more balanced, natural appearance. Recovery may take longer, but the results can significantly enhance the overall harmony and youthfulness of your face.

What a Revision Facelift Can Do for You

A revision facelift can help correct aesthetic or functional concerns left from previous surgery, restoring your confidence and enhancing your natural beauty. Whether you’re dealing with asymmetry or lingering signs of aging, this procedure can deliver the balanced results you originally desired. A revision facelift can help with the following:

  • Correcting facial asymmetry from a prior facelift
  • Smoothing out remaining sagging skin or jowls
  • Addressing visible scarring or irregularities
  • Refining uneven or unnatural facial contours
  • Tightening loose skin that has reappeared over time
  • Correcting overstretched or overly tightened skin

Am I a Good Candidate for
a Revision Facelift?

You may be a good candidate for a revision facelift if you’re dissatisfied with the results of a previous facelift and have concerns such as sagging skin, asymmetry, or irregular contours. The ideal candidates are in good overall health, are non-smokers, and have realistic expectations about the procedure’s potential outcomes. Additionally, it’s important to have enough skin elasticity and healthy tissue to allow for proper correction.

You should also be free from serious conditions that could impair healing, such as uncontrolled diabetes or cardiovascular disease. Dr. Stein will thoroughly evaluate your facial structure, previous surgical outcomes, and overall health to determine if a revision facelift is appropriate for you. He will also assess your unique needs and guide you through the best options.

What Happens During the Revision Facelift?

A revision facelift is a highly specialized procedure that lasts 4 to 6 hours, depending on the complexity of the corrections required. You will be placed under general anesthesia for complete comfort. Dr. Stein will carefully reopen the incisions from your prior surgery, often in front of and behind the ears, along the hairline, or in other discreet areas to minimize new visible scarring. He may also create new incisions as needed to access specific problem areas.

Once the incisions are made, Dr. Stein will separate the skin from the underlying tissues. Scar tissue from the previous surgery is delicately dissected to avoid damage to nerves and blood vessels. He will then reposition and tighten the underlying muscle layers (SMAS), redistribute or remove fat deposits, and trim away excess skin. Every adjustment is done with precision to restore facial harmony. Once the desired results are achieved, the incisions are closed with fine sutures, and dressings are applied to support healing and reduce swelling.

    Your Consultation With Dr. Stein

During your consultation with Dr. Stein, he will conduct a thorough assessment of your facial structure and examine the results of your previous facelift. He will review your medical history, discuss any concerns or dissatisfaction with your current appearance, and evaluate your skin elasticity and underlying facial tissues. Dr. Stein will also take time to explain the revision facelift process, including expected outcomes, risks, and recovery. You’ll have the opportunity to ask questions, and together, you’ll develop a plan tailored to your goals.

What Can I Expect From Recovery?

After your revision facelift, you can expect swelling, bruising, and tightness in the face, which will gradually subside over the first 1-2 weeks. Dr. Stein will provide detailed post-operative instructions, including how to care for your incisions and manage discomfort with prescribed medications. To promote healing, you must rest with your head elevated for two weeks and avoid strenuous activities for at least 6-8 weeks.

Within the first 7-10 days, most of your swelling and bruising will reduce, and sutures are typically removed at this time. However, it may take several weeks for all visible signs of surgery to diminish. You can expect to resume light activities after two weeks, but full recovery may take 6-8 weeks. The final results will improve as the swelling fully resolves over the next few months.

    Complementary Procedures

To enhance your revision facelift results, Dr. Stein may recommend complementary procedures tailored to your needs. These can include eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) to refresh tired eyes, a brow lift to smooth the forehead, or laser skin resurfacing for a more even skin tone. This can provide a comprehensive rejuvenation and help you achieve a balanced, youthful appearance.
