For many of us, the neck is an area that we never notice until problems appear. Loose skin, neck bands, and fullness under the chin can lead you to feel self-conscious. A neck lift can restore your sculpted neck and boost your confidence. This procedure is performed using advanced techniques to limit scars.

What is a Neck Lift?

A neck lift is designed to address a range of problems affecting the neck area. Individuals with sagging skin, neck bands, and submental (under the chin) fat can see dramatic improvements with this procedure, which tightens the skin and removes excess fat while repairing the separated muscles that cause neck bands. If you have a “turkey neck,” a neck lift is the definitive solution.

Will a Neck Lift Leave Visible Scars?

During your neck lift, Dr. Stein makes incisions either behind the ears or under the chin. Incisions in these locations will leave extremely well-hidden scars. When the incisions finish healing, the scar begins to develop and evolve. Scars will often change colors over time. In the end, most scars become nearly the same color as the rest of your skin. How long these changes take varies depending on your body’s natural healing responses.

While they are hard to notice, even while they are still red or pink, your scars will be nearly impossible to spot once they have evolved to match your skin. People who have neck lifts are typically very satisfied with the location and appearance of these small scars and have no concerns about others noticing them.

Do I Need a Neck Lift or a Facelift?

If you have concerns about your neck, chin, and jawline, there is a good chance you also have issues such as wrinkles, creases, and sagging skin around your lower face. A neck lift and facelift are often combined to rejuvenate the entire area. While you can have either procedure alone, Dr. Stein will often recommend performing both at the same time.

What is Recovery Like After a Neck Lift?

The most common effects people experience after a neck lift are bruising, swelling, and a feeling of tightness. These usually improve after the first few days and fade over a few weeks. People with low-activity jobs can usually return to work after one to two weeks. You will have follow-up visits with Dr. Stein to determine when you can return to other activities.

Am I a Good Candidate for a Neck Lift?

Dr. Stein may recommend a neck lift if you have concerns about neck bands, loose skin, or submental fat. Good candidates have no major health problems and reasonable expectations. People with concerns above the neck, including sagging jowls, may benefit from combining it with a facelift. Only a consultation can determine whether you are a candidate.
