Rhinoplasty is one of the most popular aesthetic surgeries, creating transformations and restoring confidence. Unfortunately, things may not always go as planned. You may not see the results you wanted or even have new problems. Revision rhinoplasty can give you another chance to achieve your goals.

What is Revision Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is used to sculpt and shape the nose. It can address many concerns, including size, symmetry, and the appearance of bumps or crookedness. Revision rhinoplasty is any rhinoplasty performed after the initial one. Some people have more than one revision procedure, although choosing a surgeon experienced in this procedure increases the likelihood that you will be pleased with your results. Revision rhinoplasty is more complex than the first one and requires surgical skills.

Who Needs Revision Rhinoplasty?

People who seek revision rhinoplasty usually have one thing in common: they want to improve or correct the results of a previous rhinoplasty. People who can benefit from this procedure typically fall into two categories:

Your Rhinoplasty Did Not Correct Your Problem

Some people feel unhappy with their rhinoplasty results because they did not see the expected improvements. This can happen due to general lack of communication or the surgeon’s inability to perform the corrections. Only a consultation can determine whether your desired results are achievable and whether you are a good candidate.

Your Rhinoplasty Created New Problems

Any surgery has risks, and some rhinoplasties cause more problems than they solve. Rhinoplasty can change your nose in undesirable ways, create scar tissue, or make breathing more difficult. Revision rhinoplasty can usually correct these issues. Problems can occur during or after surgery, especially if your surgical team lacks experience or training.

How is Revision Rhinoplasty Performed?

Revision rhinoplasty is more complex than a first rhinoplasty for many reasons. Dr. Stein will work within the limitations of scarring from past surgery to perform your procedure. He may need to remove or replace bone or cartilage. The details of your procedure will vary depending on the needed corrections.

What is Recovery Like After Revision Rhinoplasty?

Your recovery time after revision rhinoplasty will range from one to two weeks. Most people feel comfortable resuming light activities within a week but may not feel comfortable in social situations for about two weeks. Residual swelling can take several months to resolve. Your revision rhinoplasty results can last a lifetime.

Am I a Good Candidate for Revision Rhinoplasty?

Candidates for any rhinoplasty should be in good health and have achievable goals. Candidates for a revision rhinoplasty should wait at least six months after their last procedure before having their revision. Dr. Stein will discuss your goals and the results you can expect to achieve.
