An important question that patients have before undergoing any type of plastic surgery is when they can go back to work. Many people are interested in getting a nose job (rhinoplasty), but they feel like they just don’t have time. The great news is that rhinoplasty has become a relatively straightforward procedure that doesn’t require as much recovery time as you think!
How Long Is Recovery Time After A Nose Job?
This depends on the kind of nose job and on the patient. Some people’s bodies heal quicker than others. If there are no complications, you will be able to go home on the same day as your surgery. Most of the swelling will be gone in about three days, and, generally speaking, patients go back to work within a week.
Recovering After A Nose Job
Although some people are back at work after just a week, it’s important to note that you won’t be fully recovered in a week. It’s recommended to take it easy until you are. For the first week, you will have to wear a cast on your nose, and you can expect to feel congested. You might feel a little bit groggy, so it is recommended to rest at home completely during those first seven days.
Non-Strenuous Tasks After A Nose Job
If you’re feeling ready to start doing something after the first week and you don’t mind having a little bit of bruising on your nose, you can start with some light activity. If you have a desk job, you will be completely fine to return to it. The recovery time also depends on the type of procedure. After a closed technique, you will probably feel ready in 3-5 days and with an open technique, 5-10 days.
Strenuous Tasks After A Nose Job
If you have a job that’s a little more physical, you can expect to wait longer. This is because it’s recommended to avoid anything which promotes blood flow to the head. This means you shouldn’t be getting back into any sports. You can start thinking about returning to more physical tasks after 3-6 weeks.
Full Recovery After A Nose Job
If you’re ready to get back to your social life, you can expect this after 3 weeks. If you feel comfortable going back sooner, you can use makeup to hide residual bruising after the swelling has gone down.
For a full recovery, expect to wait 6-12 months. This doesn’t mean you will be swollen and bruised for 6-12 months, just that it will take that long for your nose to fully “settle”. With Dr. Stein, you can rest assured that your nose job will go as smoothly as possible and that you’ll be recovered in no time.
