What Can You Expect the Day of Your Procedure?
Facelifts are typically done on an outpatient basis under deep IV sedation. Your anesthesia provider will be at your side throughout the entire procedure to monitor your vitals and keep you comfortable. While there are various types of facelift procedures, you can expect your surgery to last about 2-4 hours.
Although you’ll be able to go home the same day, you’ll likely feel a bit groggy after the comedown effects of anesthesia medicine. You should have someone available to drive you home and stay with you for the first 24 hours. You’ll be prescribed pain and anti-nausea medications to minimize discomfort throughout the first several days of recovery.
What Does It Feel Like After A Facelift?
Post-surgical swelling and tenderness will significantly improve after about 2 to 3 days. Mini staples are removed anywhere from 5-10 days after your procedure, and the sutures dissolve usually around 2 weeks. Many patients feel comfortable returning to work in about 2 weeks. However, strenuous activities should be kept to a minimum for about 4 weeks.

In about two weeks, you’ll probably feel almost 100%. Start to incorporate your normal routine while making sure not to push yourself too hard too soon. As your energy levels increase, you’ll be back to your day-to-day activities. Full recovery can take several weeks to several months depending on the type of facelift and your overall general health.
All in all, most patients find the results of their procedure to be well worth the minimal pain involved. A facelift can take 10-15 years off your facial appearance, helping you age as gracefully as possible. Many patients only need one facelift in a lifetime.
