When facial features are underdeveloped or out of proportion with the rest of the face, it can create emotional distress. What’s more, a sculpted jawline or chin, or chiseled cheeks can boost confidence and give the impression of competence in professional circles. Dr. Adam Stein is uniquely talented in recognizing just how to balance facial features for stunning, yet natural results that showcase your best features.
How Do Facial Implants Work?
Facial implants are an incredibly versatile way to sculpt facial features to correct problems such as an under-projected chin, weak jawline, or cheekbones that have less volume due to age or genetics. Even lips can be plumped or deep facial grooves like nasolabial folds can be filled in with soft tissue implants to give a more youthful appearance with harmonious proportions. Dr. Stein thoroughly maps your unique facial anatomy and determines where facial implants will contour your features to naturally display what’s most striking about your appearance. The incisions made are small and typically located in areas that are well camouflaged, so to all but the most trained eye, it doesn’t appear you’ve had any work done.
Am I a Good Candidate for Facial Implants?
While facial implants cannot totally change your life, they can alter your appearance to boost your confidence, which inherently improves your outlook and quality of life. The best candidates are non-smokers in good health who have realistic expectations about the potential outcome. If you’re concerned about a shallow chin or cheeks, or want to perfect your pout, a consultation with Dr. Stein can get you started.
What is Facial Implant Surgery Like?
Facial implant procedures are remarkably quick, requiring only 30-60 minutes to complete. Dr. Stein performs the procedure in the Stein Plastic Surgery accredited surgical suite on an outpatient basis with local anesthesia and IV sedation. For a chin implant, the small incision is made on the underside of the jaw for placement along the front of the jawbone. Cheek implants are put in place through incisions beneath your upper lip for maximum camouflage. Several advanced techniques are used to determine the shape and placement of each implant, and having the procedure done by a physician of Dr. Stein’s caliber offers patients the highest chance of success.
How Long Does Facial Implant Recovery Take?
Facial implants are perhaps one of the easiest facial rejuvenation procedures from which to recover. Most of Dr. Stein’s patients spend between 4-7 days recuperating in the comfort of their homes before returning to work.
Swelling, redness, and some bruising are perfectly normal and will subside within 1-2 weeks, though it can take a few months for your tissues and new implants to fully settle. You’ll notice immediate prominence to your chin or cheekbones or beautifully plump lips and diminished facial folds. For the most part, you’ll be cleared for more strenuous exercise around 3-4 weeks following your procedure, provided you’re cautious.
It’s important to note that it will take several weeks for the implants to fully integrate into position in relation to surrounding tissues, so patients are urged to take special care not to engage in activities where the implants could be bumped out of position or jostled. This involves some time off from certain high-contact sports or extracurricular activities.
At Stein Plastic Surgery, our philosophy is to provide our patients the utmost in compassionate care in the serene privacy of our state-of-the-art facility. Having a procedure to improve your quality of life is inherently vulnerable, and with Dr. Stein’s knowledgeable and understanding bedside manner, you’re in the best hands in Raleigh.
