The shape of the nose can significantly impact overall facial appearance. For those who wish to alter a prominent, misshapen, or damaged nose, rhinoplasty, or a nose job, might be the solution. Double-board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Stein specializes in rhinoplasty and works with patients to provide them with their desired facial composition.
What is Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty is a cosmetic procedure that changes the structure and appearance of the nose and is also sometimes used to improve breathing capabilities. Many people choose to undergo a nose job to enhance their facial composition, remove a bump on the nose, or fix a broken nose or deviated septum.
How Long Does Rhinoplasty Take?
There are two types of rhinoplasty: open and closed. In an open procedure, an incision is made in the connective tissue between the nostrils, while a closed procedure only requires incisions within the nostrils. Depending on which type of procedure is best for you, your rhinoplasty can take between one and three hours. This outpatient procedure is performed under twilight anesthesia.
Though patients may experience some discomfort and swelling, most people can return to work in approximately one to two weeks when swelling has fully subsided. Additionally, the results of a rhinoplasty are usually permanent, allowing you to enjoy the benefits of your new appearance for many years to come.
Who is a Good Candidate for Rhinoplasty?
Anyone who wishes to alter the shape or structure of their nose is a good candidate for rhinoplasty. However, because the nose can continue to develop during the teenage years, the procedure is recommended for adults who have finished developing. As in other cosmetic surgeries, the best candidates are healthy non-smokers with realistic expectations for their rhinoplasty results.
Dr. Stein also offers ethnic rhinoplasty, a type of nose job that can soften the appearance while keeping unique cultural features intact. With 26 years of experience, Dr. Stein is highly qualified to preserve natural and unique beauty while making the alterations you desire.
What is Revision Rhinoplasty?
In some cases, patients unsatisfied with the results of a previous rhinoplasty procedure may wish to undergo revision rhinoplasty at Stein Plastic Surgery. If your previous procedure created breathing problems or an unsatisfactory appearance, a revision can improve your cosmetic or functional results.
Dr. Stein suggests waiting six months to a year after the initial procedure to begin revision rhinoplasty. He will work with you to correct an unsatisfactory appearance or breathing difficulties that arose after the initial procedure.
