Everyone has a facial feature we’d like to change to improve our overall appearance. For some, the imbalances we see in the mirror is more than annoying. If we lack the defined chin or sharp cheekbones we desire, it can lead to anxiety and loss of confidence. Stein Plastic Surgery understands this, and we’re pleased to help our patients achieve balance and harmony with facial implants.
How Do Facial Implants Work?
If you’ve always wanted more prominent cheekbones, don’t like how ill-defined your jawline looks, or the bridge of your nose fades into your face, facial implants may be something to consider. Their purpose is to shape your facial anatomy so your overall appearance is symmetrical while still maintaining your natural beauty. There are a few different options for facial implants.
Silicone implants come in all shapes and sizes, and with 26 years of experience, Dr. Stein has developed masterful techniques to place them for natural, proven results for thousands of patients. Working together, you and Dr. Stein will choose the appropriate shape and size implant to enhance your features in a way that will achieve your aesthetic goals.
Soft tissue implants may also be used for lip enhancement and to fill in deep lines around your nose and mouth. If your lips have thinned with age, or were always undersized due to genetics, you can plump them up with soft tissue implants designed to keep them soft and pillowy. For deep nasolabial folds, or “marionette” lines from your mouth down to your chin, these implants are ideal. You may also use them to fill in facial hollows like those at the temples, or under the eyes and cheeks.
Am I a Good Candidate?
If you’re unhappy with asymmetrical facial features, miss your youthful cheekbones, or have never had a strong enough chin, you may be an ideal candidate for facial implants. A comprehensive consultation with Dr. Stein is a great place to start.
What is the Procedure and Recovery Like?
A lot depends on which procedure you’re having done, though most facial implants take between 30-60 minutes to place. Dr. Stein performs your procedure on an outpatient basis under IV sedation and/or local anesthesia. For a chin implant, your incision is made in the crease beneath your chin and the implant is inserted between the jawbone and tissues. Cheek implants are placed through an incision inside your mouth between your gum and upper lip. There’s no visible scar. Soft tissue implants are typically placed through injection.
The good news is recovery from both cheek and chin implant procedures is quick, between 4-7 days. You may have swelling, redness, and mild discomfort but these are easily managed. It is, however, imperative you take care not to jostle your implants for a few weeks while they anchor into position. Soft tissue implant recovery is also quick.
How Long Do Facial Implants Last?
Some implants, such as breast implants, can break down over time and need to be replaced every 10 years or so. Facial implants are designed differently, even soft tissue implants, so the goal is no need for a repeated procedure to enjoy their effects for the rest of your life. Facial implant surgery is also relatively easy to reverse by simply removing the implants that no longer fit your aesthetic.
If you’re ready to change the prominence of your chin or cheeks or fill in those deep folds around your nose and mouth, Stein Plastic Surgery is excited to help you become your best self. Call today.
