Rhinoplasties are one of the most commonly requested procedures among both men and women, and for a good reason. The procedure can redefine the entire facial appearance for a more balanced look. When done correctly by an experienced board-certified facial plastic surgeon, rhinoplasty is typically a one-time procedure with lifelong results.

Stein Plastic Surgery has helped thousands of rhinoplasty patients achieve an optimal outcome with minimal pain, scarring, or downtime. Dr. Stein is a double board-certified surgeon who uses his advanced surgical skills and artistry to give patients their ideal facial contours.

Types of Rhinoplasty Procedures

Dr. Stein offers several types of rhinoplasties depending on your individual needs and goals. You may be better suited for one or a combination of both of the following treatment options. He’ll work closely with you to determine what’s right for you at the time of your initial consultation.

Closed Rhinoplasty

Although closed procedures do take more surgical skill, the benefits for the patient are numerous. Sometimes called a ‘scarless’ rhinoplasty, this approach offers patients dramatic results with less swelling and no visible scars. During a closed rhinoplasty, incisions are made entirely within the inside of the nostrils.

Closed procedures can effectively reduce the nasal hump and straighten the septum. It should be noted, not all surgeons will offer closed rhinoplasty procedures.

Open Rhinoplasty

Occasionally, more severe aesthetic concerns may need to be addressed with an open rhinoplasty. Patients who would like dramatic changes when it comes to projection, deprojection, or redefining the nasal tip or nares may opt for open procedures. In this case, incisions are well-hidden along the natural curvature of the nose.

These procedures give your surgeon better access to the underlying bone and cartilage allowing them to easily reshape your desired contours. Open rhinoplasties are almost always necessary when performing revision procedures.

Can I Minimize Scars at Home?

While Dr. Stein does his best to ensure incisions are opened and closed in a way that visible scarring doesn’t occur, there are some things you can do at home. By closely following your scar management plan, which includes avoiding sun exposure and plenty of sunscreen, any surgical scars will likely be gone in 3-6 months. A light coating of makeup can be used to diminish any scarring throughout this time.
