Many factors contribute to aging in the eye area. Drooping eyelids and puffy undereye bags can make you look tired or even sad. An eyelid lift or blepharoplasty rejuvenates the upper or lower eyelids. This procedure helps you achieve a bright-eyed, youthful look.
What is an Eyelid Lift or Blepharoplasty?
The eye area often shows signs of aging sooner than the rest of the face. An eyelid lift or blepharoplasty can address concerns such as sagging, wrinkles, crepey skin, and undereye bags. This procedure can be performed on the upper, lower, or both eyelids. It can also be performed with other procedures, such as a brow lift or facelift.
How Does an Eyelid Lift Work?
Dr. Stein performs an eyelid lift using incisions hidden in the creases of your eyelids. These incisions allow him to tighten loose eyelid skin and adjust or remove fat deposits. The incision for the lower eyelid may be performed inside the lid to avoid a visible scar entirely. Dr. Stein may also tighten muscles that have become loose over time to restore a tighter appearance around the eyes. He will place small sutures that come out after about a week.
3 Tips for Recovery After an Eyelid Lift
The most important recovery tip for any procedure is to follow your surgeon’s instructions. They will explain in detail how to care for your incisions and when you can resume different activities. You can also follow these recovery tips to speed healing. Most people following Dr. Stein’s instructions return to work within a few days and physical activities within two weeks.
Keep Your Head Elevated
Fluid will accumulate in your eye area after surgery, causing swelling. We recommend sleeping with your head elevated, allowing this fluid to drain. You will experience less swelling and discomfort as a result.
Choose Clothes Carefully
We recommend checking your supply of tops that zip or button up the front. You may find these more comfortable than pulling a shirt over your head for the first few days. Within a few days, you should have no discomfort putting on any shirts you want.
Get Your Nutrients
Recovering from any surgical procedure can make you feel tired but resist the temptation to eat convenient junk foods. Your body needs nutrients for optimal healing, so many people freeze a few days of meals so they can take it easy and still have the nutrition they need.
How Long Does an Eyelid Lift Last?
Blepharoplasty is a long-lasting way to address drooping eyelids and undereye bags. However, no procedure can stop the aging process. You can expect your eyes to look bright and youthful for at least ten to fifteen years. Signs of aging will eventually appear, although you can delay them with good skincare.
You can improve and prolong the results of your procedure with laser resurfacing.
