As the most visible feature of your face, your nose can make you feel self-conscious if you have concerns about its size, symmetry, or shape. Rhinoplasty can correct a wide range of issues to help you achieve the nose you have always wanted, one that is uniquely yours but more sculpted and aesthetically pleasing than before.
What is Rhinoplasty?
While you may have heard it referred to as a “nose job,” rhinoplasty is a complex procedure that requires a surgeon with clinical expertise and an eye for beauty. This procedure adjusts the appearance of your nose by reshaping bone, cartilage, and soft tissue. While many plastic surgery procedures treat signs of aging, people who have rhinoplasty have often been self-conscious about their nose from an early age.
What Concerns Can Rhinoplasty Fix?
Each rhinoplasty is a customized procedure that addresses your unique needs. You may have rhinoplasty to treat:
- A disproportionately large or small nose
- Asymmetry or crookedness
- A bridge that looks too wide or narrow
- Bumps or hollows in the bridge
- A hooked, drooping, or upturned nasal tip
- Large, wide, or unusually small nostrils
Your consultation will give you an opportunity to discuss all your concerns about your nose with Dr. Stein. His decades of experience as a facial plastic surgeon allow him to sculpt a nose that matches your goals and expectations.
Special Types of Rhinoplasty
Dr. Stein specializes in several types of complex, challenging rhinoplasty. Ethnic rhinoplasty is performed to correct specific concerns without affecting the unique aesthetic appeal of the person’s natural ethnic features. Revision rhinoplasty is performed to correct or update the results of a previous procedure. These procedures are usually more technically difficult than a first-time rhinoplasty.
How is Rhinoplasty Performed?
Dr. Stein usually performs rhinoplasty with IV sedation to keep you comfortable and relaxed. Depending on your needs, he may perform one of two forms of the procedure. A closed rhinoplasty, used for more minor corrections, uses incisions inside the nose. If more access is needed, an open rhinoplasty will use a small incision between the nostrils at the base of the nose.
What is Recovery Like After Rhinoplasty?
You can expect to see some swelling and bruising after your rhinoplasty. Dr. Stein will prescribe medication and provide recovery instructions. Most people feel comfortable returning to their usual activities after seven to ten days, although you may prefer to wait up to two weeks for the swelling and bruising to fade. You will be cleared to resume your exercise routine based on Dr. Stein’s follow-up assessments.
How Long Do Rhinoplasty Results Last?
Many plastic surgery procedures change the features of the skin, so they are eventually affected by signs of aging. Since the structure of the nose is provided by bone and cartilage, you can expect your rhinoplasty results to last a lifetime. While you may see some minor changes due to fat loss and other effects, the overall structure of your nose will not change.
