Facial Implants Cheek, Chin and Lip Augmentation
The facial appearance can be enhanced in a variety of ways with facial implants. Implants may be used for cheek augmentation to enhance flattened cheeks or they may be used for chin augmentation to increase the chin projection and create proper proportion and balance of the face. Implants may also be used for lip augmentation to create fuller lips and even to fill in other areas of the face like the grooves between the nose and corners of the mouth (nasolabial fold) or the groove between the chin and jaw.
Cheek implants, also known as malar implants, can create high cheekbones. They can also be used to restore volume in the cheeks that has been lost through aging.
Weak or under-projected chins are commonly corrected with the use of chin implants. Rhinoplasty is often performed in conjunction with chin implant surgery in order to achieve facial harmony and balance. Chin implants or pre-jowl implants can also help to better define the jawline when used to enhance the results of other procedures like a facelift or neck liposuction.
For fuller lips or to fill in facial grooves, soft implantable materials like Gore-Tex and Soft-Form can be used. There are both advantages and disadvantages to the many different types of injectable fillers and soft implants. Dr. Stein has extensive experience with them and he currently feels that Alloderm is the best option for soft tissue augmentation. He uses Alloderm for lip augmentation and to fill in facial grooves. Results are very natural in both look and feel as Alloderm is a natural material which, once implanted, actually becomes part of the patient.
