(Now Known as Radiesse)

Radiesse™
Injectable Fillers

Radiesse™ Has Arrived

The Facial Plastic Surgery Center is pleased to offer Radiesse™, one of the newest injectable fillers that was recently FDA approved for use in the United States. Radiesse consists of Calcium Hydroxyapatite, the same mineral component found in teeth and bones.  Using Radiance to supplement decreased collagen in aging skin, wrinkles and scars can be smoothed out and deep frown lines can be greatly improved.

What Areas Respond Best to Radiesse?

  • Nasalabial folds (side of nose / mouth), Peri-oral lines (around mouth) and lips.
  • Depressed scars (acne, chicken pox, facial trauma)

Why is Radiesse Different?
There are tremendous differences between Radiesse™ and other injectables such as Collagen and Botox Cosmetic™.

Radiesse™, similar to collagen, is used to augment the lips but, unlike collagen, which has a small percentage of allergic reactions, Radiesse™ has a zero reported allergy reactions. Radiance™ can also be used as an injectible filler for facial wrinkles, but unlike  Botox,™ the muscles are not paralysed; therefore, your face retains full expressiveness (for example, your eyebrows still go up and down, etc.).

How Long Will My Results Last?
One considerable difference between collagen and Radiesse™ is the length of time that the injected substance is retained by the body. Collagen has a duration or  "life-span" of about 6 months, compared to Radiesse™ which appears to last up to 2 years and in some cases much longer.  The hydroxyapetite is reabsorbed into the body the same way the bones are renewed in the body.

What are the Risks?
Radiesse™ is injected, therefore, no surgical risks are entailed and only a small amount of local anesthetic required. Radiesse™ is made from well-known biocompatible substances found in teeth and bone, which will be absorbed by the body over a period of about 5 to 6 years. If not done by a trained medical professional, Radiesse™ may be performed inadequetly with poor results.  More detailed information is provided for in office patients during their treatment visit.

Non Cosmetic Uses of Radiesse
Radiesse is being used medically to treat voice box problems by bulking up the vocal cords and urinary tract problems by bulking up the urethra reducing incontinence.
